Georg Gaigl Performance “metamorph.diary”

Georg Gaigl “metamorph.diary”

Georg Gaigl filters individual images from the daily news videos on the Internet and uses them to generate digital collages, which he mounts on wooden panels to create a unique picture by hand.

That is why these originals have such a material and powerful effect that it is impossible to escape their presence. It is precisely this effect that determines Georg Gaigl’s seemingly painted works on the raw wood:

Often familiar patterns and pictorial content, which, however, generate an idiosyncratic expressiveness and immediate associations when viewed over a longer period of time, both in the individual motifs and in the impact of the presentation as an oversized mosaic.

The 57 individual pictures in the series dominate the exhibition space. Each of the metamorph.diary series was created in July 2018 to June 2020 and January 2022 to December 2024 from several still images of the international news videos, each of which is assigned to the date of creation. The transfer to the wooden panels gives the pictures a haptic quality in their uniqueness through the traces of processing.

For the exhibition, he converted 57 large-format images from the 1462 digital ones into hardware. In the video installation “phasetrace wabi sabi eumel”, ceramic vessels contain short films lasting just a few seconds that show poetic sketches and create a meditative effect in their loops.
