History and significance of the Walking Man Munich

The Walking Man Munich was created in 1995 by American artist Jonathan Borofsky. With its proud height of around 17 meters, it is one of the most impressive works of art in the city’s public space. Munich Re, whose headquarters are right next door, sponsored the work and wanted to make “movement” and “openness” symbolically visible. The sculpture does just that: A person in motion – futuristic, light and yet monumental.
