A brief history of the OsterwaldgartenThepub was built in 1874 and restored by the Spaten brewery in 1996. Back then, Schwabing was still a small village, but there was a bowling alley.
This probably attracted young people and workers who worked in the nearby Maffei locomotive factory, as the Osterwaldgarten website reports.
The husband of the Duchess of Ludowika (owner of Biederstein Castle), Duke Max of Bavaria, was also a welcome guest.
The cozy dining room is a great place to sit. The Osterwaldgarten is also ideal for family celebrations.
The Spatenbräu beer is freshly tapped at the rustic bar. The slogan “Take a guess … – drink spades” is the program here.
Tip: it is quieter in the rear area or in the adjoining room.

This beautiful Bavarian inn offers an excellent menu at “Munich prices” in a rustic setting.
The duck with dumplings and red cabbage is particularly recommended. Furthermore, there are hearty snacks and many Bavarian delicacies such as roast pork or ox shreds.
Fish is also on offer, as well as various well-dressed salads. The weekly menu offers changing dishes at reasonable prices.
Of course, desserts are a must. The specialty is the glazed Kaiserschmarrn.

Take the subway line 3 or U6 to Münchner Freiheit and get off there.
From there, you can either take bus number 59 or walk towards Kleinhesseloher See (approx. 10 minutes’ walk from Münchner Freiheit).
Access by car via Dietlindenstraße. Limited parking is available in Biedersteiner Straße.
It is also possible to drive to the Seehaus and use the parking lot there or on Gyßlingstraße.
