Wedekindplatz, named after the famous German writer Frank Wedekind, is like a magnet in the heart of Schwabing. In the middle of Schwabing-West, this public square attracts many Munich residents. It is a meeting place where there is a lot going on in summer. The center of the newly designed square is formed by the three large maple trees and the restaurants and bars that have settled around the meeting place. There are more pubs, restaurants, cafés and bars in all the streets leading off this square.
If you buy a delicious ice cream at the ice cream parlor on site and take a seat on one of the benches, you can watch the hustle and bustle from here and feel the pulsating life of the Bavarian capital that takes place in front of the doors in summer and not behind them. PS: Perfect starting point for nightlife.
After a redesign of Wedekindplatz on Feilitzschstrasse, it developed into a lively meeting place for young and old – it is particularly popular in the evenings and at night as a nightlife attraction.
Feilitzschstraße and the Wedekindplatz
The small streets around it, such as the adjacent Occamstraße, are home to many nice restaurants, such as Chopan Schwabing (Afghan specialties) or “Helene Liebt Dich ” (current motto: “Tel Aviv meets Marrakesh”) or California with Mexican food.
Many restaurants have also opened up in Haimhauserstraße, so there is plenty of choice. We estimate that you will find around 22 delicious restaurants close together around Wedekindplatz.
From Afghan to French, Italian, Irish, Israeli, Lebanese, Mexican, Austrian, Peruvian or Spanish, pretty much everything is represented.
If you can’t find a seat there, just go to the next restaurant.
The sidewalk cafés in particular make these streets even more beautiful, creating a lovely atmosphere in the evening with candlelight and street lighting.
It’s impossible to imagine life without McDonalds at Wedekindplatz
Of course, McDonalds is also on Feilitzschstraße in Munich. It has been around for so long that it is practically an institution. There are also a number of small street food vendors, such as the very popular Türkitch with köfte & kebab.
Also iconic: hanging out at the YOLE GELATO ice cream parlor.
