Tour through the northern part of the English Garden

On this idyllic tour, you will experience the northern part of the English Garden with us, we will visit the Oberföhring weir and take a trip through Bogenhausen. Unlike the southern section, the northern section is not laid out in an English landscape style, but resembles a relaxing urban forest. You have the feeling that you’re not in the city at all, but somewhere in the countryside.

This impression is reinforced by the rickshaw’s comfortable ride. And here, too, there is exciting history and lots of interesting things to learn: we visit the old workshop of the Maffei company, where the first locomotives were produced. At the St. Emmeran bridge you can learn about the founding of Munich and at the Oberföhring weir you can see how Munich generates renewable energy with the help of its lifeline. The tour then takes us through Bogenhausen, past impressive villas (celebrities send their regards), the former home of important Munich writers and artists. We also visit Thomas Mann’s former villa, located in Herzogpark, and hear about his artistic work.

Depending on the length of the tour booked, the following sights are located along the route:

Pick-up is at Münchner Freiheit. You can find out the best way to get to Münchner Freiheit on the MVV website. A different collection can also be arranged on request. The first stop is the Tivoli power station, the original site of the Maffei plant. The route continues to the mouth of the Eisbach into the Isar to Gyslingstraße with the former Maffei apartments. Along the track path, where the former rail road used to run, you reach the heart of the northern part with a tranquil view of the Rumford and Siebenbuchen meadows. The next stop is the well-hidden old beech tree, the “grand dame” of the northern section and one of the oldest trees in the park. From there, the path meanders past the Schwammerlweiher pond to the St. Emmeran bridge. From there it goes along the Isar to the Oberföhring weir, then on through Bogenhausen to Thomas Mann’s former villa, from where it goes back to the starting point. A different destination can also be agreed on request. All tours can be combined with this tour.

Book directly via rikscha-guide.com. The stands in the English Garden are located at the Eisbachwelle or at the Chinese Tower.
